On June 30th at 3pm, Arianne Zwartjes and Aisha Sabatini Sloan will be reading at Bookworks, one of Albuquerque’s last remaining independent bookstores. Bookworks states on its website: “Before indie was cool or hip, we were indie.” I believe the current term in youth vernacular for what Bookworks is is “sick,” but who can keep track.
Arianne Zwartjes is in northern New Mexico serving as the director of the wilderness program at the United World College. The University of Iowa Press published her essay collection, Detailing Trauma: A Poetic Anatomy in the fall of 2012.
Aisha Sabatini Sloan’s essays have appeared in Ninth Letter, Identity Theory, Michigan Quarterly Review, and The Southern Review. Her first book of essays, The Fluency of Light: Coming of Age in a Theater of Black and White was published by the University of Iowa Press in 2013.
